Women, Girls, and the Global Response to Zika

The Center for Health and Gender Equity (CHANGE), International Planned Parenthood Federation Western Hemisphere Region (IPPF/WHR), and Promundo invite you to a trilingual Twitter chat in English, Portuguese, and Spanish on why women and girls must be part of the global Zika response.

Thursday, September 29, 2016 — 10:30 am-11:15 am (EDT)

The inadequate response by national and global leaders to the growing Zika epidemic is becoming a health and human rights disaster. Over the past year, Zika has exposed and exacerbated already existing inequalities for women and girls. It is time for governments and donors to take bold action to address the Zika crisis and the challenges it produces, especially for women and girls. This Twitter chat will raise awareness about why women and girls must be part of the global Zika response.

The Twitter chat will follow a simple Q&A format with CHANGE (@genderhealth) tweeting out numbered questions in English for individuals and organizations to respond to. IPPF/WHR @IPPF_WHR will tweet the questions in Spanish  and Promundo-Brazil @Promundo_Brasil will tweet in Portuguese. For example: “Q1: How does the spread of & response to #Zika expose & exacerbate inequalities for women & girls? #NoZika #BreakBarriers” Direct replies to this question written in the following format will help everyone to easily follow the conversation: “A1: Marginalized and impoverished women have been disproportionately affected by the #Zika outbreak. #NoZika #BreakBarriers” And of course, please include #NoZika hashtag in all of your tweets!
